Our Home in Nicaragua

Our first Nicaraguan children’s village came into existence in the year 1994 on the island of Ometepe within the Lake Nicaragua. Because a volcano threatens the children’s village, we had to take the decision to move to another village called Jinotepe. So we set up the home "Casa Padre Wasson" there in December 2010. The home “Casa Padre Wasson” has a biological wastewater treatment system, which cleans the shower water thus making it reusable. Besides we constructed a clinic for 300 children with pharmacy, odontology and a psychologic section.

According to our founder's philosophy we also try to help the people from the neighboring communities as well. Our clinic is open to children from the surroundings.

Why your support is so important:

  • Almost half of the population has to make their living on less than one Euro, 80% on less than two Euros
  • There are only 9 hospital beds available for every 100,000 people
  • Children in Nicaragua die almost nine times more often before reaching the age of 5 than they do in Germany*

The civil war between the so-called Contras (paramilitary groups) and the Sandinistas in the 1980s took toll on many lives and left behind numerous orphans. Corruption and annual natural disasters constantly weaken the security within the country.
