Our Home in Mexico
In 1954, Father Wasson founded the first home of OUR LITTLE BROTHERS AND SISTERS in Mexico. Today, about 930 children and adolescents are living in our facilities in Miacatlán, Cuernavaca and Monterrey. More than 100 additional children from the vicinity – amongst them children who live in the street or the close-by garbage dump Milpillas – receive our support.
Why your support is so important:
- Every fourth person lives below the poverty line
- Out of 1,000 children, 35 do not live to become 5 years old
- 8 % of the Mexicans do not know how to read and write*
There is a huge social gap within the Mexican society. The war fought between the drug cartels is a growing menace to the population. Especially children are defenselessly exposed to poverty, illness and violence. Almost a third of the Mexican population is younger than 15.**
