Our Home in Haiti
In the year 1987, the third children’s village of OUR LITTLE BROTHERS AND SISTERS was built in Haiti. Today there are about 600 children living within a caring family in our home at Kenscoff. Every year, 20,000 people receive treatment at the only gratuitous pediatric hospital in Haiti. Our 18 schools in the slums around Port-au-Prince enable 4,000 children to access the necessary education. Because there is constant shortage of potable water, we distribute 80,000 liters of potable water daily. In the capital we have to bury about 200 people a week. The relatives can many times not afford a dignified burial of their deceased.
Why your support is so important:
- More than half of the Haitians are forced to live on one Euro a day, 80% on less than two Euros
- One in five children is malnourished
- One fifth of the children are already born with very little weight*
To fight hunger, people are “baking mud cookies”: In place of flour they use mud. The infrastructural conditions are catastrophic, clean potable water is rare and there are very few schools in the country. The children in the poorest country of the western hemisphere urgently need food and medical assistance.
