Our Home in the Dominican Republic
In the year 2003, the seventh children’s village of OUR LITTLE BROTHERS AND SISTERS was founded in the Dominican Republic. At the moment, about 230 children live, learn and play in our installations. Also people from the neighboring communities are attended to at the home’s own clinic. In 2008 we were able to offer a loving home to about 20 children.
Why your support is so important:
- 28% of the population live below the margin of subsistence
- The number of children who die before reaching the age of five, is five times as high in the Dominican Republic as in Germany.
- The average life expectancy is only 68 years, in Germany it’s 80 years*
Offside the tourist strongholds in this popular holiday destination, poverty, hunger and lack of education are raging. Numerous people live in poor circumstances in the so-called “bateyes”, these are barrack settlements for the workers on the sugar cane plantations.
